Video: Norris drives full-scale LEGO McLaren P1 at Silverstone

World-renowned F1 driver Lando Norris drives a 1:1 scale LEGO McLaren P1 around Silverstone – at speed

LEGO model took 18,903 hours to build and weighs a hefty 3,297 pounds

Lando Norris has taken to the track in one of the most unique F1 cars of his career – a full-scale LEGO McLaren P1.

The unique creation was unveiled by LEGO and McLaren at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in the UK and was built in the likeness of the 2015 hybrid hypercar to celebrate the brands' ongoing partnership.

It's not just a static LEGO display model, though. Norris headed to Silverstone to sample the car – officially known as the LEGO Technic McLaren Formula 1 Race Car – around the circuit at speed. The model is made from 463,429 LEGO bricks, weighs 3,297 pounds (1,500kg), and took 18,903 hours to build. It sits on a steel frame and has a complex suspension setup beneath the carbon fiber bodywork. Power comes from an electric motor that enables it to reach a top speed of 12 mph (20 km/h).
